Book Report: Self-Care for Your Apocalypse

June 05, 20253 min read

When I came up with the idea to write “book reports” here, it was because almost every client I've worked with has asked for book recommendations at some point or another.

I've been working on building up my library of recommendations for about 6 years now.

Recently, I noticed that whether it's writing a book report or recommending a title to a client - something slips my mind on the regular.

I seem to forget that I actually published a book.

When it crossed my mind that I might write a post about it here, my first reaction was, “well…that seems a bit self-promoting”.

Um.

Let’s be honest - that’s true.

AND also, it’s a really good book and the author is super-cool.

AND also…that’s kind of why I’m here...

...to self-promote because I'm launching a business and haven't reached the point where I can pay for marketing yet. (I checked with my boss...she said go for it!)

AND also...at the same time, I'm here to be more visible to the people who will benefit from the wisdom I drop.

Don’t let me get too big for my britches. It’s not like I was born wise.

I gained wisdom throughout a lifetime of trial and error and mistakes and failing forward...just like anyone else.

I digress…as per usual when I need to brag on myself.

The book is called Self-Care for Your Apocalypse: The User Guide You Never Knew You Needed.

It’s an easy read.

It’s funny.

It actually works.

I wrote the book because as I was working with my clients and I’d ask what they did for self-care, they almost always said “I try to eat well…get enough sleep…and sometimes I try to exercise.”

You know what that is?

Survival.

I wrote the book because I spent most of my life not really understanding what self-care was.

Not to give away the plot (because - you should buy the book) but self-care isn’t all yoga, massages, and mani/pedis.

I wrote it because even if we do know what self-care is, and even if we know how important it is, we very often think we don’t have time for it.

That’s where the ‘user-guide’ format comes into the story.

I learned by working with real women in real life (myself included) that if they started with 5 minutes a day, it worked. It wasn't easy...but it worked.

So I experimented to see how far we could take this crazy idea.

What about 10 minutes? Yeah.

15? Broken into three 5-minute bits of self-care? Another yes.

Learning to say “NO” to begin to create space and time? Whaddaya know? Yes again.

Then we were moving on to 30 minutes…an hour….whole morning and evening rituals that soothed the soul.

I was onto something. So I wrote a book.

It includes a 30-day guide to begin to create space and build your own self-care practice.

You might even want to splurge and grab the workbook with it.

I don’t want to spoil the end of the story but I think it’s so, so, so important to mention that when you invest time and care into yourself, you will eventually have more energy.

When you have more energy, you’ll be more efficient.

When you’re more efficient, you'll get things done faster.

When you get things done faster, you'll have more time.

If you give a woman self-care…she just might ask for more.

And I’m here for that.

P.S. The sentence or two about self-promotion...I really want to take that out. At the same time, I know there are other women who struggle to be visible and self-promote...so...to you ladies...that's for you.

P.P.S....you can buy your very own copy of this book (and the workbook) in only one place so here are the links:
